General Assistance Notice
The municipality of Canton administers a General Assistance Program for the support of the poor. Pursuant to Title 22 MRSA-4304, the Municipal Officers have adopted an Ordinance establishing that program. A copy of the Municipal Ordinance is available for public inspection at the Canton Town Office. Also available for inspection is a copy of the General Assistance Statutes.
Persons who wish to apply for General Assistance may do so at the Canton Town Office.
In the event of an emergency, occurring after normal business hours, which are Mon 8-4, Tues 8-12, Wed 8-4, Thurs 8-6 and Frid 8-12, applicants may contact the General Assistance Administrator, Kathy Walker at 597-2920 ext. 105.
The municipality’s General Assistance administrator must issue a written decision within 24 hours of receiving an application.
